Title: Diplomacy
Post by: Willebrord Snell on April 26, 2007, 06:16:01 AM
I'm assuming a good number of y'all must have either heard of or played the amazing game of Diplomacy.  What're some of your funniest/best stories that have come out of the game?

I won once without negotiating with anyone. I don't know if that is really that amazing cos I'm a novice but I was Austria-Hungary and I've been told that it is weak.

My best game was once when I was Germany.  I agreed to a NAP with Russia, and launched in a war with England and Italy against France.  Manipulating England, I manage to seize both Denmark and Sweden, as my armies march through France, and I end up with 2/3 French supply centers, with the third taken by England.  England then, however, double-crosses me, and invades Denmark and Sweden.  I successfully take his French supply center, and then I seize Spain and Portugal from him.  I take back Denmark, and then attack their supply center in Scotland, forcing him to pull off of the continent altogether, letting me take the rest of Scandinavia.  I successfully force England to focus on my navy in Scotland while I proceed to manipulate Austria and Turkey into an alliance against Russia, in which I sweep in frrom the north, seizing St. Petersburg and Moscow, followed by an attack into Austrian territory, giving me the needed majority to claim ultimate victory.

Perhaps because you want to cleave the land of Switzerland with an axe

Funny.  My best game was also as Germany.  I had made an alliance with France against England, and alliance with Italy against France, and an agreement with Russia that kept him out of Galicia.  While Turkey, Russia, and Austria were butting heads in the south-east, France and I managed to completely wipe out England using the Flemish Sealion, while Italy was left only with Tunis due to some good defense by France.  I then stabbed France and took their home supply centers as well as their English ones (Russia had by this time taken Norway), while Italy took Iberia.

There was a bit of a spat between Italy and me over the MAO, but I kept him out of it by threatening to take Spain and force the Mediterranean, and he retreated back to Gibraltar.  Both of us then turned west, Italy stabbing Austria and me attacking Russia in Scandinavia.  By this time I've got fourteen SCs, so the others are starting to get worried, but Italian pressure on their flank prevents them from forming any sort of stalemate line, and I end up with France, England, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, St Petersburg, Warsaw, Moscow, and Vienna for the win.

Good game that was.  We should really try playing Diplomacy over the forum again.
