Exploration of the unknown

There has been some recent releases where you're brought to a situation that you know very little from and work your way from there. I just watched a trailer of a game with very appealing ambiance to me, called Corpse of Discovery, you're an astronaut sent to discover new worlds...but something isn't right...this isn't what you've signed up for. I really like this type of games, I admit that I wish Dead Space wasn't so violent and so fast paced action movie, but the setting that you're left to fend by yourself in a very weird inhospitable situation is both challenging and relaxing, can't really explain it very well. For instance, I really liked the Portal games, but they are short and not too alien.

No Man's Sky is another example of a game I would likely really enjoy, you're an explorer to seek new life forms a la star trek:

Long time ago there were plenty of games that made you go explore planets on your own, the late 80s early 90s were filled with those, point and click explorations. Is this a come back of those games with the new game design technology or is this something "new" in terms of experience. I'd say the most famous of these new games of exploration with a lot of enphasis in ambiance (specially in space) that happens to be horror is Alien: Isolation.

Anyway, I might try this one. Let me know if you have examples of old games or new games of the same genre.
