Revolutionary College
« on: January 20, 2015, 01:00:07 PM »
Many large regions, and Taijitu itself at one point, have "universities" where citizens can go to speak about, or learn about, topics that interest them. Oftentimes these universities have departments devoted to topics like RL history, NS gameplay, writing/roleplay, politics, etc.

Would Taijitu have any interest in something like this? I know myself and Oz both wished we had given a lecture on writing at the last NationStates World Fair - a Revolutionary College would allow anyone to give lectures on something that might interest them without a strict timetable. We could even have Q&A sections, where people with extensive knowledge on a topic that might not have the time or interest to develop a full lecture could field questions from other citizens.

Is this something anyone else would be interested in?

A Revolutionary College would be an excellent addition to the region, provided we actually use it.  ;)

We could also provide no education services and just steal money from the citizens. works pretty well in rl

So, basically, a lot of people writing on topics they know about? Sounds nice inceed-s.

How to keep Oz frustrated by keeping the writing just under the quota, or making him come up with weird quotas and contradict himself for your pleasure 101.

As for administration of the college; establishing departments, etc., I see a couple different options:

1. Leave this to the Ecclesia to decide by legislative fiat. Establish a few different departments at first, and have them decide on whether to add more and who, if anyone, to leave in charge.

2. Organize a "Board of Trustees" or similar setup where a handful of people elected by the Ecclesia decide these things.

3. Appoint a single person, whether a new officer or the Citizen-Liaison, to run it as they see fit.

Any other ideas, or ideas on which would work best?

I say allow the Ecclesia to establish goals for our College. Then I would suggest we create an office for someone to run this, a dean as it were. I would leave it separate from the remainder of the government in general. Giving the opportunity for self oversight. I mean ultimately this would be akin to an editor position.
