Nuclear Power
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:56:57 PM »
So I'm RPing about the last Nuclear Power Plant in New Delfos, the others have been closed down similar to Germany's "phase-out" program, there weren't too many in New Delfos but there has been high political pressure to close them down. I've been wanting to RP about this bc modern New Delfos has no nuclear power, yet it had in the past. The Geioshu Power Plant will have a similar fate as the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Any doubt go ahead and ask, any will to participate, ask. I will definitely need participation in the Chapter 3 "Aftermath". Anybody willing to pick up characters, even international characters, like a spokesperson of the anti-nuclear movement, other nuclear scientists, TV reports, lets plan it here so you can participate. Mind Chapter 1 is pretty much locked into the building of the story, there's not much room to add new things unless they are very pertinent.

All this said, I'd like to ask any of you for any nuclear accident happening to each of your nations. Minor, Major, calamity level, don't worry, they'll all be very welcome. They will be added to the timeline of Taijitu RP and I will use them in my RP for political pressure to close down the Nuclear Plant.

We should also make a list of who has/had nuclear power, maybe additional info about having nuclear weapons might be interesting for Taijitu RP stats.

Myroria loves its nuclear power as a cleaner, safer alternative to polluting coal. The growth of nuclear power only accelerates in the 80s and 90s as the full extent of global warming becomes known. I'll throw in some incidents and Myroria would be willing to send nuclear physicists and engineers to Delfos as well.

1967: Ulozh Nuclear Disaster. Full details of the disaster not published or made known in Ozia or Taijitu until after the 1968 coup. 1.5 million civilians, scientists, engineers, and soldiers "volunteer" for the liquidation process from 1967 until the coup. Ozian aircraft mobilize to treat soil and seed clouds over Vonisia which create black rain in the region. Other civilians are evacuated to Segom. Ozians declare no fly zone over Vonisia and high altitude jets with air-to-air missiles and high altitude surface-to-air missiles are transferred to Vonisia. 2-7 days afterwards, neighboring Jutensan/khemish/Elaran university/powerplant radiation alarms go off. Ozian aircraft flying over Cefnor seeding more clouds. International Confusion. 20 days after accident, international energy commission demands a report from Ozian authorities. Ozian authorities claim they have no idea what's causing the anomaly. yadda yadda.

Ozians never officially state they have nukes or not (they do). Date is unknown when they developed them. Ozia still uses nuclear power but under tight regulations and safety measures.

1966: Two inexperienced engineers working at Llarynirovth Nuclear Reprocessing Station outside Ivorheart, Myroria cause a criticality accident. Both die.

1969: Traval Power Plant accident. An experimental reactor inside a cavern outside Traval suffers a partial core meltdown after a loss-of-coolant accident. The cavern is sealed and reactor abandoned. News overshadowed by political turmoil in Pelagis.

1979: Moose River Nuclear Plant accident in the remote County Traval township of T19R3 NSBM*. Partial core meltdown leads to release of radioactive steam and gas. New regulations on the nuclear power industry are passed, but Fredrika and the Imperial government reaffirm their commitment to nuclear power. Despite dire predictions of a cancer epidemic in the area, only a statistically nonsignificant increase of thyroid cancer rates is reported. The Moose River accident remains the most serious nuclear incident in Myrorian history.

With a renewed focus on wind and solar power in the 21st century, the number of Myrorian nuclear plants gradually begins to decline as they reach the end of their working lives and are decommissioned.

Most Myrorian nuclear waste is transported to the interior of Nouve Resdaynia for disposal. Though no transport ships have been lost at sea yet, activists push for the industry to find a better way to dispose of waste.

As it seems I am the only country that sells nuclear materials and equipment I thought maybe I could get in on the RP somehow.  Maybe sending inspectors on the dismantling or perhaps buying any of the used equipment and remaining nuclear materials.

Wouldn't we have an international committee regulating nuclear materials and equipment trade?

Aren't you presuming I'd follow such regulations or even be an actual member of said committee?  Also where is this said committee in the RP?

A few of notes about Bustian culture and trade:

Quote
Civil freedoms are very highly regarded.  This has led many laws to have either been abolished or to never come into effect. Drugs laws, prostitution laws, weapon laws, gambling laws, traffic laws, even business and environmental regulations are nonexistent.

Quote
Without a strong economy, the Allied States would not be where it is today.  As a capitalist, free market, business owners can run their businesses as they see fit.

Quote
None of our exports are considered illegal and thus are sold openly.  We hold no responsibility for private persons bringing in Bustian exports considered illegal in foreign markets.

We generally presume such committees exist because there is little or no reason to RP all these conferences when there are other stories we could tell that are more meaningful.

If you are not a member of this committee, that is your prerogative.

Also sole-exporter =/= sole-manufacturer. A lot of nations do not allow nuclear materials, oil, or other resources to be exported.

Other things to note, we have a lot of empty space on the map, I'd assume other countries export nuclear materials, and also nuclear materials are found everywhere, it's 40x more common than silver and 500x more common than gold.

Good point.  However I was more referring to said committee's involvement in the dismantling of the power plant, assuming Delfos is a part of this committee or has invited it to be involved in whichever way.

Correct.  My point in this case was the presumption I was part of said committee or was bound in any way to abide by it.

Simple answer, black market.  Simply because you do not allow, does not mean it doesn't happen.  But I digress, I am simply trying to see, as currently the only OPEN dealer of nuclear materials and equipment, how I may enter the RP.

I am not trying to be argumentative, simply trying to add to a story line.
