Tomato Research Centre
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:41:44 PM »
In order to recycle unused buildings in the Taijitu capital I propose refitting the old TEP embassy into a Tomato Research Centre. Since there are efforts to turn Tomatoes into our regional fruit, Taijitu would benefit with the study of these voluptuous scarlet delicious fruits.

Areas of Study to be developed by this TRC:
Humanities - the value of tomatoes to our lives and the study of tomatohate, having their 1st goal a report on the incident with TEP, it's repercussions and the use of tomatoes as a political instrument.
Agroscience - Seed testing, environment and soil research, planting programs and development on foreign regions and climates.
Culinary - In connection with the Taijitu Tourism School, a program will research and serve the traditional, conventional and conservative ways of Tomato confection in various culinary applications and a research team for new inventive ways to use tomato.
Culture - Arts program, research on historic usage of tomatoes in various artistic forms, development of the Taiji Tomato Exhibition for our majoring students.

proposal under construction, feel free to jump in. All this proposals are to effectively enlarge our forums with new areas of community development and interregional relations.

Since there has been no further proposals on the issue I move it to vote:

Quote from: Tomato Research Centre
The citizens gathered in Ecclesia approve the creation of the Tomato Research Centre.
  • The starting areas of study by this Research Centre are listed bellow but it's curriculum can always be altered to accommodate more research and researchers.
  • All the equipment, alumni, academic personnel and administration will be gathered at the former The East Pacific Embassy, Number 2, Pacific Street, Embassy Row, Taijitu to reuse the empty building.
  • Further changes may have to be approved by Ecclesia.

I'm going to be a party pooper and vote against. Here are my reasons:

  • I'd prefer the Ecclesia not be entirely frivolous. There are more serious matters that should occupy our time here.
  • I see no reason to replace The East Pacific's embassy with a forum about tomatoes that no one will ever post in.
  • I don't know about anyone else, but I do hope, one day, to reopen relations with The East Pacific. When they ask "What happened to our old embassy?" I'd rather not answer "We demolished it to replace it with a two-bit joke."
  • We can just move the embassy to the archives.
  • And lastly - and please don't take this as insulting your sense of humor because I think everyone here is very funny - this joke is dead. Deader than Dillinger. If this joke was missing anymore lifeblood, we could get a rabbi to certify its meat kosher. I'm already grimacing every time someone mentions "tomatoes", and I'd prefer not to grimace every time I look at the embassy board.

ahem
  • So it is a symbolic opposition, is it not? No other reason you'd march in a double standard during a vote instead of voicing your concerns before the vote.
  • TEP embassy is the 1% part of the proposition that is a "joke", but is a political statement about unused parts of our forum or our stupid laissez faire on any incidents involving our permanent residents, or our ethnocentricity off the charts preventing us to have relations with any other region.
  • I hope we do restore damaged relations, with whomever, and nothing in this proposal stops that. In fact it was my opinion that when it got enough topics it'd have it's own sub-forum elsewhere.
  • This proposal cares not for demolishing embassies. If you can "just move" it then you can do the same for the Tomato Research Centre.
  • There was plenty of time to make proposals, you cared to do this proposal when it's on vote, well we can compromise it won't go to the embassy board.

TEP to be the reason for not supporting TRC doesn't seem true. Again, if people agree the problem is TEP then I compromise that that 1% of the proposal will be removed, and it would before the vote.

I agree with Myroria here - It's best if we avoid making too many not-so-serious posts, especially so early in the development of the region. You're certainly welcome to found it elsewhere, but still I would recommend against doing so - persistent forum jokes grow tiring very quickly, and tend to stick around as festering corpses after they die (I know this all too well).
